Summer Vacations with Children

During the holidays, children perform activities that help them stimulate and work motor areas, develop skills and strengthen their self-esteem. Children through the game learn at their own pace the different swimming styles and also combine these acquired skills in their daily life, improving their lifestyle.

Public Day Care Center in the City

Help and educate low-income children at primary level. This follows guidelines: valuing education, being in a loving environment, encourages respect and discipline, aiming for a quality and pursuing excellence from an early age.

Nursery Preschool in the Tropical Forest Mindo

Focused on prevention, healthy eating and education of children. Stimulate knowledge and motor skills, within 12 months to 36 months of age. It seeks to develop the brain, skills, abilities, attitudes, emotions and behaviors of the child to improve their lifestyle.

Indigenous Nursery Home in Quito

Spanish Proficiency: Mid Basic

Located in a poor neighborhood of Quito, provides a secure environment to indigenous children to learn and to play and to develop and gives attention that parents cannot give due to work schedules.

Activity Examples:

  • Help serving breakfast, midday snacks, and lunch
  • Assist with preschool and recreational activities 9art, craft, music, and movement)
  • Provide good experiences for indigenous kids

Home for Adolescent Mothers

Provides social support and considers the most vulnerable and needy sectors (mainly city of Quito). It focuses on supporting teenage girls due to the high rate of child abuse.

Shelter for Abused Women and Their Children

Spanish Proficiency: High Basic
Minimum Length: 4 weeks

Supports women who are victims of mistreatment by their partners and offers care for women who are constantly facing death.

Offers English classes on different levels in a public school or a private high school in Quito.

Provides one floor as a playground. Focuses on socialization between children. Provide plays to develop intelligence and creativity. Role depends upon the needs of the project at the time.

Public Rehabilitation Center for Children

Spanish Proficiency: Intermediate

Offers prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation to children and adolescents with physical or intellectual disabilities, learning disorders and malnutrition. Supports recovery, social and school integration.

Activity Examples:

  • Assist in therapies
  • Help taking care of children with disabilities and incurable illnesses

Physical Rehabilitation for Children With Disabilities Using Horses and Dogs

Spanish Proficiency: Mid Basic
Minimum Length: 2 weeks

Supports destabilized children and teenagers. Works with horses and dogs. Assists children with physical and mental disabilities.

Activity Examples:

  • Assist with logistical support in activities and therapies
  • Help with cleaning, brushing and caring the animals
  • Assist and accompany children during canine and hydrotherapy sessions

Center for Speech Therapy

Provides service and support by educational community. Supports children with special educational needs/disabilities. Provides speech therapy and offers support for psychological problems.

Shuar Community

Spanish Proficiency: Mid Basic
Minimum Length: 2 weeks
Term Availability: All Year

Promotes organic farming, sustainable agriculture, and responsible consumer habits. Supports and educates about Shuar Community (eastern indigenous population of Ecuador)

Activity Examples:

  • Organize training for families in environmental conservation and preservation
  • Assist in the organic gardens (sugarcane fields, banana trees, gardens of yuca)
  • Collect medicinal plants in the forest

Community Development Otavalo

Spanish Proficiency: Mid Basic / kichwa
Minimum Length: 2 weeks
Term Availability: All Year

Represents Kichwa families from the Otavalo area. Shares and promotes multicultural tradition, music, Andino agriculture, typical food, alternative medicine and artisanal wares.

Activity Examples:

  • Help with conservation of the Andean agriculture
  • Visit different families
  • Learn about the conservation of ancestral customs and traditions
  • Teach English to the families
  • Assist during the workshops of embroidery, textile

ECOLOGICAL PROGRAMS

Conservation and Development Community in Tropical Forest Mindo

Spanish Proficiency: Mid Basic
Minimum Length: 2 weeks
Term Availability: All Year

Work with seeds, all plants of the tropical region, fruit tropical plants. Planting, maintaining the construction of the green house. Plant and sell the organic vegetables, change plants in parks.

Activity Examples:

  • Maintenance of the plant nursery
  • Reforestation of water basins and green spaces with seedlings from the forest area of Mindo
  • Work on trails in the San Pedro Lake Parish with the elaboration of interpretive trails
  • Care and maintenance of the native plants of the nursery

Botanical Garden in the Park (Quito)

Spanish Proficiency: High Basic
Minimum Length: 3 weeks
Term Availability: All Year

Promotes knowledge, protection, and conservation of the Ecuadorian plant resources. Mainly focuses on Andean flora.

Activity Examples:

  • Help with gardening, irrigation of water, sift fertilizers

Galapagos Farm Program

Galapagos Biological Reserve

Develops reforestation, habitat reconstruction, agroforestry activities. Utilized native species for the last 18 years. Provides technology to reconstruct native habitat in the highlands on San Cristobal.

Animal Rescue in the Jungle

Rescues animals in danger and helps with reincorporation into the jungle.
