Through a special relationship with Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB), Athena utilizes two of UAB’s smaller campuses, creating a unique blend of a small, personalized program with all the resources and connections of a large, world-class university. Overall, UAB has over 77 graduate majors and more than 43,000 students!
In addition, our close partner Active Learning Abroad (ALA) assists students to provide personalized support services throughout your study abroad experience. Our friend Dr. Arturo Jarque makes every student feel at home in Spain through his excellent support and advice.
Founded in 1968, UAB is a European academic powerhouse. As a whole, UAB has over 77 undergraduate majors and 43,000 students.
For an immersive and more personal experience, you will be studying at one of UAB’s smaller campuses of Sant Pau and Eixample.
While the UAB is a world-class institution, as a whole it's a little big for our liking. We found a way to make it work! You'll study at two of the smaller campuses of UAB in order to have a more personal experience and build great relationships.
Courses have the following % breakdown:
|COURSES||General % Offered|
Dr. Jarque was born in Alicante, where he lived and studied until moving to the United States to continue his education. He has a Ph.D. in Contemporary Humanities and was a Fulbright researcher at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Jarque’s welcoming personality and deep knowledge of Spain and regional cultures make him an invaluable partner for Athena and an excellent friend for students.

Incredible. That’s what it’s like. Barcelona is a one-of-a-kind city, truly one of the great cities of the world.
The vibe of the city is young and fresh. Located in the northeastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, Barcelona is a great place for you to spend a summer, semester or an academic year. It’s one of the most popular cities to study abroad in, so there are many international students in the area. The city is large, but not massive or overwhelming, so it is great for study abroad.
So much to do in Barcelona … History, art, architecture, sports, beaches, nightlife - there’s something for everyone… Great public transportation makes it easy to get around.
The city's most famous structure is a church called ``La Sagrada Familia``. Construction began in 1882...and it's still being built today! It should be finished by 2028.
Barcelona’s impressive public access beaches did not even exist until recently. There were no beaches in Barcelona until 1992, the year the city hosted the Olympic Games.
