LdM-Florence offers so much, including a wide variety of courses, term offerings all year long, and most importantly, strong personalized attention for our students. We share the same vision of individualized academics with LdM’s founders.
Founded in 1973 in Florence, LdM has long been recognized as a top academic institution in Italy. LdM has continued to expand its academic focus to now encompass nearly all academic disciplines.
You will be in the heart of Florence, as the school has over a dozen buildings spread throughout the city.
Warning: you may get addicted to the Italian food while you are there. The good news: this program has a state-of-the-art cooking facility in the city-center so you can learn to ‘feed’ your gastronomic addition!

Irene was born and raised in Florence, where she lives with her family. She had the opportunity to discover a large part of Italy and Europe but her heart has always remained in Florence. Irene has a natural tendency to help foreigners and she likes being a representative for students and help them in any way they need. She wants students to feel welcome and at ease in her hometown.
We know you’ll love Florence, but that doesn’t mean you won’t want to check out other amazing areas around Italy. We’ll help with that, too! Athena includes two field trips for semester students, and summer students can add a field trip at an additional cost (see Dates and Prices). Possible field trips could include:
• Cinque Terre
• Naples, Sorrento, and Pompeii
When in Florence, live as a Florentine! Join one of the many clubs, such as the Dancing Club, Photography Club or Soccer Club. Also, you can take advantage of the weekly activities, and volunteer opportunities that are available to you, so you can get to know the locals.
Give BACK to the world while you’re getting so much FROM the world! We have volunteer opportunities available when you attend Athena’s LdM campus.

Amazing! Florence will have many traditional Italian dishes, such as pastas, pizzas and fresh vegetables. Also, desserts are very important, so you will make sure you become familiar with gelato or pastries!
Vegetarians: Athena’s resident vegetarian gives Florence an 8 out of 10 for being vegetarian friendly!
Yes! You can certainly request who you would like to have as your roommate. This is done after you are accepted into the program; you will note this in your housing request forms.

The experience of living on our own in an apartment right down the street from the
Duomo was incredible. It gave us a sense of what it is truly like to live in another country.
You’re in for a treat. Florence is one of the most popular places to study abroad for a reason. The art, the culture, the incredible historic city streets – it becomes part of you while you are there. Florence was the heart of the Italian Renaissance, where artists such as Michaelangelo and DaVinci roamed the streets. Before that, Florence was a Medieval powerhouse. These two eras’ distinct vibes live on through the priceless works of art and incredible architecture that you will take in, as you stroll the cobblestone streets.
Nearly 1/3 of the world’s art treasures reside in Florence, according to UNESCO.
During World War II the Germans destroyed all of the bridges in Florence except the Ponte Vecchio as it is alleged Hitler declared it too beautiful to demolish.
