I can’t believe our first month in Germany is already done. So much has happened it really does fly by so fast. We spent the last weekend at Oktoberfest and it was everything I thought it would be and more. 20 of us went together from school and decided to all stay at a campsite that was right outside of the festival. We met thousands of students from all over Europe studying abroad for the semester. The campsite was really cool with meeting so many people, but once Sunday hit and majority of us got food poisoning, we were excited to head back to Heidelberg. Oktoberfest itself was the craziest festival I have ever been to. The first half of the festival is the 30 beer tents set up all down the street. However, there are 14 main tents at the festival that everyone tries to get a table in. Just one of the beer tents can hold starting from 4,000-10,000 people. The other beer tents have more of outside beer gardens for people to relax and enjoy if they cant get into the massive beer tents. The second part of the festival is a huge carnival filled with tons of rides. Instead of having the classic carnival food like funnel cakes, candy apples, or lemonade stands like we have at home, it is more like pretzels, schnitzel, and bratwurst on every corner you look. It was so cool being a part of the biggest festival in the world and maybe one day I will be able to go back. For now, I am happy to be back in a bed for a week than sleeping on the ground.
