At Sant’Anna, we have many all-day field trips in our schedule that we go on with all of the students. Our first one was to the island of Capri. It is just a short ferry ride from the main port in Sorrento. It was unbelievably beautiful! We left at 7:30 AM and arrived on the island around 8:30 AM after walking, getting organized and taking the ferry. From there, we had two lovely tour guides who were hilarious and knowledgable about the island and its history. We started the day with a bus ride and then a chair lift ride (which was so cool!!) to the top of the mountain on the island. From this vantage point, we could see practically the entire island! The gaping cliffs, ancient architecture, and abundant greenery/flora made me nearly tear up from the beauty. We spent a little bit of time in awe and taking in the views before we took the chairlift or hiked back down the mountain. I chose to hike down, and I’m so glad I did! We saw a herd of mountain goats crossing our path, including two babies! We also saw a good view of the city Anacapri and a few pretty stray cats. Once we reached the bottom, we had a couple of hours to ourself to explore as we pleased. My friend and I discovered a tiny residential cobblestone pathway that went on for about a half-mile. On this road were able to have a peek at a lot of beautiful houses and dream about what it would be like to live somewhere that beautiful in houses filled with such history and beautiful architecture! The path led out to a little cafe built into an old cavern on top of a cliff. We got a perfect spot with a view of the ocean where we had a drink before making our way back with the group!
I will definitely be coming back to Capri to visit places like the blue lagoon and wander the fairytale-like streets again.
