On Friday, Oct. 25, Dr. Claussen presented, “Study Abroad & LGBTQ Communities at Stonewall 50.” He discussed LGBTQ populations in several sample countries, and all participants were invited to share resourceful ideas for materials about such communities ranging from social scientific and historical research to activist blogs and listservs to LGBTQ tourism guides and websites.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, he presented, “Study Abroad and Employment: A Proposed Research Agenda,” about the current status of research into connections between study abroad and careers. Much current research is either circumstantial or anecdotal rather than rigorous social science.
Thanks to all who joined us for these enlightening discussions! Materials and resources from these sessions will be published on Athena’s website soon.
