Athena Finalist for Three GoAbroad Innovation Awards: People’s Choice, Innovation in Diversity, and Innovation in Marketing & Digital Media
Athena Study Abroad has been selected as a finalist for THREE GoAbroad Innovation Awards: The People’s Choice Award Innovation in Diversity Innovation in Marketing and Digital Media
GoAbroad’s People’s Choice Award honors the top international education organizations as selected by study abroad professionals and students. To become a finalist in this category, Athena was nominated by study abroad advisors throughout the United States. This is the second year in a row that Athena has been a finalist for the People’s Choice Award. Thank you to all who nominated us! The winner will now be determined by popular vote – please cast your vote here:
The Innovation in Diversity Award recognizes strategic efforts to expand global educational opportunities to traditionally under-represented groups. Athena’s “Access Study Abroad Initiative” is awarding $50,000 in scholarship funds to enable under-represented groups of students to “access” study abroad. Instead of defining what under-represented means to us, we decided to have advisors define what that uniquely means on each individual campus. Nearly $30,000 in scholarships have been awarded so far! Schools interested in receiving Athena Access Scholarships should submit their application here, identifying which under-represented group would most benefit from these funds.
The Innovation in Marketing & Digital Media Award recognizes a creative and groundbreaking marketing, advertising, or digital media campaign. Athena held its first #AthenaPhotoMadness tournament in March of 2016, in line with NCAA basketball’s March Madness. #AthenaPhotoMadness is a similarly modeled bracket where the tournament pitted city against city, country against country, photographer against photographer, in a friendly global rivalry to determine who would be named “Best in the World” 2016. After a tense and nail-biting competition every step of the way (from the Sweet 16, to Elite 8, to Final 4, to Final 2), in the end THAILAND was named Best in the World 2016. The winning photographer was Emma Strahm from Miami University of Ohio and she won a GoPro, an Athena program grant up to $1,000, and a feature in our next catalog.
