The whole team here at Athena is thrilled to share the CENTERPIECE moment of our International Education Week celebrations……today marks the day that “Athena Embraces Africa” by launching our first programs on the continent – 2 new programs in Kenya and South Africa! We are so pleased to reveal two new amazing study abroad programs in Africa:
SOUTH AFRICA: Social and Economic Development
60 hours of volunteering at a non-profit organisation, 36 hours of contact time where students will be guided through a carefully curated curriculum. There are an additional 20 hours of field trips providing students with the necessary context to understand contemporary South Africa and to gain first-hand experience of successful social and economic development initiatives.
KENYA: Ecology and Conservation
This program is split evenly between Brackenhurst, an eco-campus in Limuru, Kenya, and the Maasai Mara Conservancies in the infamous Maasai Mara ecosystem. It aims to provide students with an understanding of the complex relationships between Kenya’s indigenous communities, land, water, and wildlife. Students will be presented with modern challenges and solutions that can help preserve some of the world’s most diverse ecosystems – from African forest, to wetlands, to the savannah.
