In Ireland there is an entire week in the middle of the semester that you have off of school. They call this assignment week and it’s designed to have time to work on some of the first assignments that are due. However, many study abroad students use this week to travel around Europe, as the airfare is incredibly affordable between countries in the EU. We used this week as an opportunity to see Amsterdam and Barcelona, as well as other places.
In Amsterdam, we purchased a three day pass which gave us access to unlimited public transportation and got us free museum entrances. We went to botanical gardens, the Van Gogh Museum, the Diamond Museum, the Heineken experience and several others. We also did a canal cruise and a pub crawl in the Red Light District. Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We all had such an amazing time. We experienced the A’DAM lookout, where we swung out over the city and saw amazing views.
It was absolutely incredible! I could hardly believe it was real life!
After Amsterdam, we headed off to Barcelona! On our first day there, we bought Hop on Hop off Bus tour tickets. We saw several landmarks including the old Olympic Stadium and the Barcelona Soccer stadium. We also visited Park Guell and other Gaudi designed masterpieces.
After Barcelona, we all went our own ways. Lexi headed to France where she would visit the city she had studied in before and visit her friends there. Shannon went to Edinburgh, Scotland where she saw a friend and explored beautiful castles and breathtaking views. As for myself, I headed to Bonn, Germany where I visited my friend, Quinn, who is currently abroad there. By pure coincidence, the weekend that I was there was the weekend of Karneval. Karneval starts on 11/11 at 11:11. Everyone dresses up in fun costumes and goes out and has a good time! We went as FBI agents.
It was such an unforgettable experience to fit so many amazing things into one week!
