In 2015, Athena Study Abroad’s 10th Anniversary Year kicked off with exciting news. We announced that we are awarding $50,000 in Athena “Access Study Abroad Scholarships” – funds aimed to assist under-represented populations of study abroad students in accessing the opportunity of study abroad.
One of Athena’s overarching goals as an organization, as well as a large part of our pledge for #GenerationStudyAbroad, is to assist under-represented populations of students to seize the opportunity of study abroad. What we have found is that ‘under-represented’ means very different things at different schools – the list can include African Americans, males, athletes, Latinos, LGBT, first-generation students, or even STEM students (to name a few). We decided not to define “under-represented” for you, but to instead have you define it for us!
Highlights:
- Athena is offering up to 50 scholarships to our programs, each in the amount of $1,000, to be distributed by advisors to the group they identify as the most ‘under-represented’ in study abroad at their institution.
- Up to two (2) Athena Access Study Abroad Scholarships may be awarded per institution.
- Scholarships will be awarded to institutions on a rolling basis.
