The number one priority for Athena is the safety, security, and well-being of our study abroad program participants. While neither Athena nor our host institutions can guarantee a risk-free environment, all efforts are made to best ensure the safety and well-being of our participants throughout the duration of the program. We at Athena work tirelessly to ensure that all pieces of a student’s study abroad experience are carefully organized, monitored and vetted to ensure the highest level of quality and safety.

In addition to the support services we provide, Athena also emphasizes to students, faculty, and parents that all program participants must take responsibility for their own safety and security. This is highlighted during pre-departure preparation, on-site orientation, and throughout each student’s stay in the host country. Students are advised to use common sense, be aware of their surroundings, and not put themselves in compromising positions with the abuse of drugs or alcohol. Students should maintain the same precautions anyone would follow in their home communities in the U.S.
