FAQS

Will I be able to travel?

Yes!  In addition to the field trips/excursions included, you will have time to do independent travel if you choose during your free time.  Salamanca is near Madrid, which is a major European hub, so that opens the door to many opportunities.

How many students are on the program?

A typical program will have under 10 study abroad students on the program.  This makes for an incredibly personal and high-quality study abroad experience, things we at Athena pride ourselves on.  The university you enroll in will have around 6,000 students total.

What is the food like?

Great!  Salamanca has a lot of tapas restaurants (small portions), as well as meats and cheeses.  Many restaurants will serve traditional Spanish plates of meats and sides.

Vegetarians: Athena’s resident vegetarian Salamanca a 6 out of 10 for being vegetarian friendly!  You should always be able to find a vegetarian dish, but there is minimal variety.

Can I request to room with my friend?

Yes!  You can certainly request who you would like to have as your roommate.  This is done after you are accepted into the program; you will note this in your housing request forms.

How do I get to Salamanca?

You will fly into Madrid, Spain, which is a couple of hours from Salamanca.  From there, you will travel to Salamanca.

Do you provide flights?

We have partnered with STA Travel, an incredible student-focused travel agency.  The good people there will be able to help all Athena students arrange flights overseas.

HIGHLIGHT: Pure Spanish

The Spanish spoken in Salamanca is the purest in Spain, which also makes the city a popular destination for foreigners wishing to learn Spanish.

``Every single day abroad was a new adventure. I was surrounded by a vast amount
of culture, history, art, & students from around the world...I highly recommend trying it.``
