ACADEMICS

ACADEMICS in TUSCANIA

WHY WE PARTNER WITH LDM-TUSCANIA:

LdM-Tuscania was the first school that Athena partnered with due
to its nearly identical mission of bringing study abroad back to simpler roots based on individualized education. The school and the location demonstrate strong academics & a pure vision of study abroad.

HISTORY:

Founded in 1973 in Florence, LdM has long been recognized as a top academic institution in Italy. In the mid 2000s, LdM expanded its locations, and with that, the Tuscania campus was born.

EXPERIENCE:

The small town embraces the students of this program, which allows you to be easily immersed into the culture.

MEI GONTRAN

Overseas Advisor

'I was born and raised in Paris, and I came to Tuscania over 40 years ago. Working at the school gives me the opportunity to share my Tuscanian life experience with students. “My role as student advisor is very rewarding; students all get very close to the local people and to the town itself.'

DISCOVER ARCHAEOLOGICAL TREASURES

A great story: Tuscania has an active archaeological site. Past students, while digging, uncovered an ancient Etruscan mirror worth over a million Euros!

FAQS

Will I be able to travel?

Yes!  You will have free time to travel around the surrounding areas, and during longer breaks, you can branch out even further if you’d like.

Tuscania is only about an hour and a half from Rome.

How many students are on the program?

A typical program will have anywhere from 5-20 students on the program.  This makes for an incredibly personal and high-quality study abroad experience, things we at Athena pride ourselves on.

What is the food like?

Delicious and fresh!  Expect authentic Italian dishes, which means pasta, pizza and meats.

Vegetarians: Athena’s resident vegetarian gives Tuscania a 5 out of 10 for being vegetarian friendly!  You will be able to find many vegetarian dishes, but vegetarians are not very common in Tuscania.

Can I request to room with my friend?

Yes!  You can certainly request who you would like to have as your roommate.  This is done after you are accepted into the program; you will note this in your housing request forms.

How do I get to Tuscania?

You will fly into Rome, Italy, which is about an hour and 20 minutes from Tuscania. From there, you will travel to Tuscania via pre-arranged group airport pickup.

Do you provide flights?

We have partnered with STA Travel, an incredible student-focused travel agency.  The good people there will be able to help all Athena students arrange flights overseas.

THE CITY

CITY HIGHLIGHTS

What’s Tuscania Like?

Time traveling back to a simpler time. That’s what Tuscania’s like, and it’s incredible.

The city walls call back to a previous royal era, the town’s 7th century church is still in use, and the population of 8,000 brings a sense of community that you didn’t know still existed. It’s absolutely charming. Also, Tuscania is not far from Rome, as this medieval town is nestled in the Italian hillside about an hour and 20 minutes north of the capital city.

CITY PERKS:

A place that has inspired artists for centuries, Tuscania has developed a reputation for new artistic forms of expression including film, art, architecture, and more.
