What makes this Athena?
• Personalization: Small class sizes
• Location: Perfect size for study abroad
• Courses: Strong academics, especially in Business
Athena and the ESC share a common goal with study abroad: keep it small, keep it quality. The ESC’s emphasis on personalization matches Athena’s mission perfectly.
The ESC was developed in conjunction with The University of Incarnate Word (TX), which provides the academic oversight for the program.
The ESC is housed in a former palace, so you will be studying in a very unique setting. Former ballrooms are now classrooms, and elegant stairwells are part of the administrative building.
Germany is vital to the economy of the European Union, so what better place to study International Business than in Heidelberg?

ARTS | 5% |
Antonia will be your main point of contact in Heidelberg. She has studied/worked in England, France, and Spain. She is part of a team comprised of multi-lingual professionals who have years of experience working in the field of international education.
For an even more immersive experience, take courses alongside German locals at the SRH Hochschule to complement your coursework at ESC.
The only thing that could make Heidelberg better are trips to explore the other gems that Europe has to offer. We include a field trip/excursion pack for Germany students at no additional cost. The Heidelberg team will organize many optional evening and weekend activities in addition to these excursions that are included in your Athena package. Trips vary each term, but possible trips include:
• Berlin
• Strasbourg, France
• Stuttgart
• Frankfurt
• Several in-town excursions
• The program offers on-campus housing in the Villa Krehl, which is nestled in one of Heidelberg’s most charming neighborhoods.
• You’ll stay in double-occupancy rooms; singles are available upon request for an additional fee (limited availability and cannot be guaranteed).
• Shared cooking facilities are available to all students.
• Housing is conveniently located on campus, which is just a few blocks from the tram.
Yes! Field trips are included (weather permitting), but when you have free time, you are able to do independent travel as well.
A typical program will have anywhere from 8-30 students on the program. This makes for an incredibly personal and high-quality study abroad experience, things we at Athena pride ourselves on.
Very good! You will have access to have traditional German dishes, as well as international foods.
Vegetarians: Athena’s resident vegetarian gives Heidelberg a 7 out of 10 for being vegetarian friendly!
Yes! You can certainly request who you would like to have as your roommate. This is done after you are accepted into the program; you will note this in your housing request forms.
You will most likely fly into Frankfurt, Germany, and from there, Heidelberg is about an hour away.
We have partnered with STA Travel, an incredible student-focused travel agency. The good people there will be able to help all Athena students arrange flights overseas.
Past students have shared their experiences through blogs. Check them out to get first-hand accounts of what life is really like!
READ THE BLOGSI learned that much of the world lives at a different pace of life, and values different
things. I enjoyed bringing home these values & was able to better recognize what makes my home & country unique.
