STUDENT LIFE

FIELD TRIPS & EXCURSIONS

Your Athena package includes Roehampton’s one of a kind Social Programme to help you immerse yourself in the cultural life of London and the UK. Trips vary each term, but possible trips include:

• Stonehenge
• Windsor
• Hampton Court
• Olympic Tour
• Oxford
• Theatre trip

ORIENTATION HIGHLIGHT: Downtown Scavenger Hunt

The best way to figure out the craziness that is London: a scavenger hunt, of course. On your orientation weekend, you'll be put in the middle of London & tasked to go hunting. You’ll make friends & get acquainted with your new home.

HOUSING

• The program includes accommodations in an on-campus dorm suite, where you’re in the center of the social scene.
• You’ll stay in a single-occupancy bedroom, and share your dorm suite with typically 6 other suite mates.
• The dorms are comfortably furnished, complete with a shared living area, bathroom and kitchen.
• The housing is in a safe area, with nearby public transportation.

HOUSING HIGHLIGHT: Hogwarts-Style Competition

Get out the face paint. Support your dorm. Competition is abound, Hogwarts-style, where rival dorms compete in social events. Are you up for the challenge?

FAQS

Will I be able to travel?

Yes!  Excursions are included in the program, but you will be able to do independent travel as well when you have free time.

London is a travel hub, and you can get to many other parts of the UK via train, and other parts of Europe via plane.

What is the food like?

Great!  Since London is a major capital city of the world, the city features many different types of cuisine.  This means that even a picky eater will be able to find enjoyable cuisine.  An adventurous eater will be very happy as there are many opportunities to explore the wide variety of dishes available.

Vegetarians: Athena’s resident vegetarian gives London an 9 out of 10 for being vegetarian friendly!

Can I request to room with my friend?

Yes!  You can certainly request who you would like to have as your roommate.  With the London housing, each student will have a single room, but be able to request to be in the same suite as other students.

This is done after you are accepted into the program; you will note this in your housing request forms.

Do you provide flights?

We have partnered with STA Travel, an incredible student-focused travel agency.  The good people there will be able to help all Athena students arrange flights overseas.

THE CITY

CITY HIGHLIGHTS

What’s London Like?

London is the New York City of Europe. There is so much to do here, whenever you want to do it. Whether it’s theater, sports, nightlife, arts, or fashion, London has it. The bustling city is impressive by anyone’s standards. There is a great energy to the city that comes with its people, culture and history.

CITY PERKS:  In perfect proximity to urban London, while nestled in a suburban green campus oasis, Athena’s program gives you access to all that London has to offer.

WEATHER

  • TEMPERATE CLIMATE: The climate of London is temperate, with modest daily high temperatures during summer (apart from the odd heat wave) and winter lows that seldom fall below freezing.
  • PRECIPITATION: Rainfall is fairly regular, but most often in the form of drizzle, occurring throughout the year. Snow occurs sometimes in winter but rarely settles more than a few millimeters deep
