
If you are a Summer or Fall 2012 student studying abroad in Sydney, Australia with Athena, you will receive an extra treat Down Under: a Great Barrier Reef excursion will be included in the program price!
You will have the opportunity to experience one of Australia's crown jewels. The Great Barrier Reef, one of the world's seven natural wonders, contains over 3,000 reef systems, the largest in the world. An abundance of marine life swarms the area.
What better way to experience Australia than to study in the world-class city of Sydney and have an adventure in the world-renown Great Barrier Reef!



Dates: Sunday, July 29 - Wednesday, August 1
Summer students will have the trip added to the end of their term. Fall students will be able take the trip prior to the commencement of classes.
Trip Outline:
Sunday, July 29
Students arrive at the Cairns airport and receive a shuttle to the pier.
Monday, July 30
Students will escape into a world of surprises to experience the breathtaking beauty of the Outer Great Barrier Reef with Great Adventures. Form the comfort of the stable reef activity platform, this is the perfect base for swimmers and non-swimmers to explore. Snorkel and dive, visit the underwater observatory and cruise in a semi-sub, or jest relax on the sundeck.
Spend three hours at the Outer Reef Activity platform, included in the tour is snorkelling equipment, use of buoyance vests, reef education presentation, semi-submersible coral reef viewing tour, underwater observatory and guided Eco reef talk in the underwater observatory, morning tea with a delicious cake selection, afternoon tea, hot and cold buffet lunch, and cheese and biscuits on the return journey.
Note: A nominal government environmental fee is not included and must be paid on board the cruise. Also, Scuba diving may be available at an additional cost.
Tuesday, July 31
Students have a free day to explore the area.
Wednesday, August 1
Students will take a shuttle transfer to the Cairns airport.
PLEASE NOTE: Air travel between Sydney and Cairns is not included in the program cost, nor is airfare to/from the US.
Accommodations:
Students will stay from July 29-August 1 at the Discovery Cairns Hotel. They will have a standard 2-bed room to share with another student.
