Student Activities in Rome, Italy
Activities
Students are provided with exceptional recreational opportunities within and beyond Rome.
The following is a list of events offered to students in a typical semester:
- Orientation, neighborhood walk and Welcome Lunch: After your on-site orientation in Rome, you'll be taken on a walk around the neighborhood followed by a delicious buffet lunch of Roman specialties.
- Lake Bracciano and the Odescalchi Castle: The quaint medieval town surrounding lake Bracciano is most famously known for its 500 year old castle Odescalchi (where Tom Cruise got married). The castle as well as its artifacts inside narrates over six centuries of Italian history.
- Santa Maria in Trastevere and the view from the Gianicolo Hill: Gianicolo Hill, with arguably the best view of Rome, is one of the most romantic places in the city. Walk through the charming neighborhood of Trastevere, home to one of the oldest churches in Rome, Santa Maria in Trastevere. This church dates back to the 340s AD and is the home to the relic of Saint Apollonia.
- Wine Tasting at one of Rome's best wine bars: Learn to drink like an Italian; by savoring the flavors and distinctive qualities of fine Italian wines. This tasting will arm you with the introductory skills to wine tasting while exploring several types of Italian wine accompanied by complementary food tasting.
- Traditional Italian Folk Dancing: Really delve into the Italian culture by learning how to dance the traditional "balli popolare" from Southern Italy. There will be a demonstration by dancers as well as an introductory lesson on some of the key dance moves.
- Cinecitta: The illustrious Cinecitta Film Studios comprise one of the largest film studios in the world, second only to Hollywood. More than 3,000 productions have been made on this Rome campus, including The Passion of The Christ, Gangs of New York, the HBO series Rome and numerous films by the notorious Federico Fellini. For one day, students are granted access to tour the grounds as well as get a private tour of the studios and film sets.
- Fresco Making: Many of the most important artwork that you will view in Rome or in Vatican City use the ancient medium of Fresco, pigmentation of wet plaster. This rare and unique technique is associated with some of the greatest works from leading Italian masters to modern day art restoration. Learn how to do this technique and make your own fresco masterpiece.
Musical Event: Rome is home to several live music venues, concert halls and jazz clubs. Come out and listen to the music that Rome has to offer.
- Italian Movie Night (with English subtitles): Watch a contemporary Italian film with English subtitles while enjoying some hot, buttered popcorn and soft drinks.
- Abruzzo National Park: Come discover the natural beauty of Abruzzo. Hike around the national park, sample the local cuisine, and participate in the making of the local cheese.
Museum Visit: Visit one of Rome's exclusive galleries to take in their current collection.
- Farewell Dinner: Say goodbye to fellow classmates over typical Roman dishes in one of the city's best restaurants!
