FLORENCE, ITALY (LDM)

Internships at Athena’s LdM program in Florence, Italy are focused on disciplines related to the following (subject to change):

  • Museum and Gallery Work
  • Communications: LdM Web TV
  • Communications
  • Public Relations
  • Marketing/Advertising
  • Marketing
  • Event Planning/Marketing
  • Web Marketing
  • Video Editing
  • Fashion Design and Apparel Construction
  • Fashion Marketing, Retail Management and Merchandising

  • Communications in Public Administration

A standard 3-credit internship corresponds to a minimum of 135 hours, including journals and papers. During the semester, the internship requires 10-12 hours per week in the company, excluding the first / last week of classes and the break.

A standard 6-credit internship corresponds to a minimum of 260 hours, including journals and papers. During the semester, the internship requires 20 hours per week in the company, excluding the first / last week of classes and the break.

Students participating in the internship program must fulfill the relevant prerequisites. The application for an LdM internship is due by the application deadline, along with the required supporting documentation (e.g. student’s resumé, formal letter of intent, two reference letters, portfolio, writing sample, etc.).

FLORENCE, ITALY (SRISA)

Internships at Athena’s program at SRISA in Florence are focused on disciplines related to the following (subject to change):

  • Local Art Gallery, Artist/Curator Assistant – Italian Language required
  • Fashion Design – Italian Language required
  • Photography and Photojournalism
  • Journalism
  • Graphic Design
  • Jewelry Design
  • SRISA Marketing and Communications
  • Child Education

These internships offer supervised, practical field employment providing the opportunity for the student to apply prior learning to practical job experiences. The objectives of these internships are to:

  1. To give the student experience in a professional application of their knowledge and skills
  2. Facilitate the opportunity for the student to build their resume while continuing their education
  3. Assist the student in developing problem solving, creative, and communication skills
  4. Adapt to an international work and social environment

A 3-credit internship would amount to 120 hours (forty (40) contact hours are equivalent to one (1) academic credit). Internships can take the place of one course during a semester. Students that have some Italian language competency will have more opportunities, however, speaking Italian is not a prerequisite for participation.

ROME, ITALY

Internships at Athena’s program in Rome, Italy are focused on disciplines related to the following (subject to change):

  • Museum and Gallery Work
  • Sport Marketing and Communication

Available during the Fall, Spring or Summer Academic Terms:

  • For 3 credits (132-150 hours), 6 credits (236 hours), 9 credits (380 hours), 12 credits (500 hours);
  • Academic credit for internship is transferable through SUNY Alfred (New York State), accredited by Middle States Commission on Higher Education;
  • Paired with 1-3 other academic courses including Italian language.

TUSCANIA, ITALY

Internships at Athena’s program in Tuscania, Italy are focused on disciplines related to the following (subject to change):

  • Marketing / Advertising
  • Communication in Public Administration

  • Spanish for Social Work
  • Spanish for English as a Second Language teachers (ESL)
  • Spanish for Health Care Professionals
  • Spanish for Education
  • Spanish for Business and Economics
  • Practical Internships/Independent Study

These internships are for credit, and are typically worth the equivalent of 3 US credits (please check with your home institution to confirm credit equivalencies).

MADRID, SPAIN

Internships at Athena’s Madrid program are focused on disciplines related to the following (subject to change):

Students taking one of these internships typically require only Beginner level of Spanish, although more advanced language ability increases the scope and number of internships available. These internships are for credit, and are worth 6 ECTS credits (typically the equivalent of 3 US credits – please check with your home institution to confirm credit equivalencies).

SALAMANCA, SPAIN

Internships at Athena’s Salamanca program are focused on disciplines related to the following (subject to change):

  • Global Health Sciences

Students taking this internship must have a high-intermediate level of Spanish. They will observe real practices and daily routines in some of the most important private hospitals in Salamanca. Depending on the interest of the students, they may also do their internships in other medical and research centers related to the field. These internships are for credit, and are worth 6 ECTS credits (typically the equivalent of 3 US credits – please check with your home institution to confirm credit equivalencies).
