Service: Mid-Ohio Foodbank

On Friday, April 23rd, the staff of Athena Study Abroad volunteered at the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. The Foodbank is dedicated to feeding hungry people by collecting and distributing food and grocery products, educating the community about hunger, advocating for hunger-relief programs, and collaborating with others who address basic human needs. The Mid-Ohio Foodbank and its partner agencies provide more than 47,000 meals each day! It was a very rewarding experience to help an organization that is dedicated toward such a worthy cause.

Within the past year, The Mid-Ohio Foodbank relocated to a new building in Grove City, Ohio. This building is not only three times the size of their old building, but it is also an "green" facility, which will allow them to serve more people and also reduce their operating costs. After being given a tour of the impressive new facility, we were then led to the "food reclamation & repackaging" area. Food that was previously damaged at the grocery store & taken off the store shelves is brought in to this area of the Foodbank. The Athena staff helped to inspect and determine the safety of this donated food, so that it can be sent out to food pantries throughout mid-Ohio.

We really appreciate the kindness and hard work demonstrated by the staff at the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. They were great to work with, and it is evident that the Foodbank is doing great things for Ohio!
