On the morning of September 9, 2010, Team Athena headed to a downtown Columbus soup kitchen. Holy Family Soup Kitchen started in the 1970s with the aim of helping feed the area's hungry and homeless. Today, over 700 hot meals are served each weekday.
We at Athena were fortunate enough to be able to take part in serving up lunch for a hungry group of our Columbus family. Most of the food was either donated by area restaurants or by area volunteers. On the menu was fried chicken, mash potatoes and gravy, mushroom scrambled eggs, mushroom soup, pasta, and more!
One of the most invigorating elements of the day was the friendliness and thankfulness of those receiving the food. A positive and friendly spirit spread throughout everyone at the Soup Kitchen on this day, from the workers, volunteers and those receiving the food. Without a doubt, this was an excellent way for Team Athena to get out and meet many friendly neighbors in our community.
