On the night of Wednesday, May 19, the staff of Athena Study Abroad volunteered at a BINGO fundraising event benefitting New Beginnings Animal Shelter (NBAS). The goals of NBAS are:

  • To rescue, rehabilitate and place domestic animals into stable homes
  • To educate the public about the responsibilities of pet ownership in an attempt to alleviate the problem of unwanted pets
  • To build public awareness about the human-animal bond and its benefits to society

This organization receives no government funding - all of their revenues are generated from private donations and fundraising efforts. It is the goal of New Beginnings to end the senseless tragedy of euthanizing healthy animals. Their no-kill policy means that animals will not be euthanized as a means of population control or a matter of convenience. This organization has rescued hundreds of helpless, loving animals who simply needed a helping hand, and continues to do so every day. New Beginnings Animal Shelter strives to preserve and enhance life. They need the support and help of concerned citizens to become as effective and wide-reaching as possible!

The Athena team donated their time to work one of the shelter's very important fundraising events, BINGO! We split duties, from working the BINGO floor selling instants and ticket packs to the game players, to working the concession stand and selling food items, all of which resulted in profits for the shelter. We also created fliers with photos of some of the adoptable animals and distributed them to attendees, which was aimed at finding potential homes for some of the shelter's wonderful animals.

We really enjoyed our work with NBAS. They are doing wonderful work for animals!
