“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.”

Every educator has different hopes for what a study abroad program can provide for their students. With our flexibility and history of building great customized programs, we work with you to build a program that fits your needs.

From budgetary restrictions to enrollment minimums, we will make every effort to help you develop a program with all of the learning and experiential outcomes you desire.

We’re proud to offer additional services such as travel planning support, “breakout trips” while in-country, 24/7 emergency support, and more!

How does it work?

– – – – – – – – X

We’ve developed a clear and efficient eight-step process that begins with your initial program idea, all the way to post-program evaluation. Here are the steps:

  • 1. IDEA:

You have a stunning idea for a program and you ask us to help!

  • 2. DETAILS:

You fill out a “Program Planning Form” to give us as many details as you can up front.

  • 3. CONSULT AND ADVISE:

We contact you and chat about what your academic and experiential goals are for the program, as well as any questions or concerns you have up to this point.

  • 4. DEVELOP:

We work with you to develop the full program. We provide as much support as you need.

  • 5. DELIVERY:

We deliver the final proposal to you. Everything is there: itinerary, in-country contacts, pricing, and more.

  • 6. PRE-DEPARTURE PREP:

Once the program is approved and your students are enrolled, we will send you a Pre-Departure Packet with everything you need. We also offer a Skype pre-departure orientation to answer any questions that you or your students might have.

  • 7. DEPARTURE:

You go on the trip! We offer various varieties of support, but the most important thing is that you and your students enjoy your experience abroad and gain all of the program’s intended learning and experiential outcomes.

  • 8. REFLECTION:

After the program ends, you will send us some forms and we’ll have a wrap-up meeting to go over the program and talk about the next program that you want to take students on!

It’s that easy! 8 simple steps and together we can give your students a hands-on experience with your course material in an amazing place.

What are the benefits?

– – – – – – – – X

Taking your course material on the road has benefits for everyone involved!

  • STUDENT ENGAGEMENT.

Students will have an opportunity to engage in learning in a completely new and exciting place which will allow them to see things from a new perspective. They will experience things that they never imagined, and through getting a taste life abroad, they will begin to understand more about themselves and their place in the world.

  • LEARNING IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT.

As an educator, you will show your students how exciting learning can be and really get them involved in the course material. It also puts the lessons into a broader global context for the students, so they not only understand the material but also can begin to apply the lessons to real-world scenarios.

  • FRESH PERSPECTIVE.We know that while classrooms are great places to learn, even educators can get cabin fever, so one of the biggest benefits for you is the renewed vigor and fresh perspective that an immersive experience can provide. All this, plus chances to make personal and professional contacts overseas, makes Athena for Educators a great choice!

How much does it cost?

– – – – – – – – X

We firmly believe that study abroad should be as accessible as possible for anyone who desires it. When we go through the process with you, you’ll give us a “cost per student” range for us to work with, and we’ll do our best to include as much as we can to give you an amazing program that fits your budget.

We also offer special deals such as discounts on the cost for educators when your program attracts a lot of students! Be sure to ask us about ways in which you can save money and still get a fantastic program.

Did we mention that students who travel with you are eligible for discounts on future study abroad programs with Athena? We love students who have been bitten by the travel bug, and we want to do everything we can to get them on the road again!

What type of programs can you build?

– – – – – – – – X

We can work to create just about any type of program with you. Here are a few standard types that are often requested:

  • EMBEDDED PROGRAM.

This is built around a course being taught on-campus to which you would like to add a field component.

  • FIELD COURSE.

This is a course fully completed in-country. This might be a few weeks or an entire semester.

  • RESEARCH TRIP.

This doesn’t fit into either of the above program types as this is generally not associated with a specific course. While definitely still academic, research trips can be more intensive and require more travel.

A classroom can be anywhere. We think the environment shapes the learning.
