STUDENT INTERN JOB DESCRIPTION:
PUBLIC RELATIONS ASSISTANT
Athena Study Abroad is looking for a Central Ohio-based Athena student alum to fill a Public Relations Assistant internship position. The person selected will work on public relations projects for Athena Study Abroad aimed at increasing the visibility and reach of Athena's program offerings.
Total number of hours to be worked will be between 10-15 hours per week (combination of set in office hours and outside research/project work).
Position responsibilities will include:
- Creating and developing press releases about Athena for distribution to both print and online publications
- Writing articles to appear in Athena publications, website, social media outlets, etc. that feature interesting and relevant material for prospective and current students
- Interviewing Athena students on various topics in order to develop innovative material for outreach to students, study abroad faculty and staff, parents, and more
- Coordinate initiatives on the student's home campus to increase the visibility and presence of Athena at the university
- Increase online visibility and presence of Athena
- Increase the visibility and presence of Athena in the Columbus and Central Ohio community
- Assist in the creation of innovative new and existing outreach materials (newsletters, handbooks, web sections, etc.)
- Aiding in keeping Athena's web ads accurate and up to date including paid online advertisements on outside sites as well as information and promotions on Athena's own site
- Other duties as assigned
The successful applicant will demonstrate the following qualities:
- An educational background in public relations or related field
- An interest in and respect for the mission of study abroad
- Past participation an Athena Study Abroad program
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, web browsers, webmail, Twitter, Facebook
- Detail-oriented
- Self-starter who is active in contributing ideas and feedback
- The ability to work independently given office policies and guidelines
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Integrity, punctuality and dependability
- Sense of humor

STUDENT ENROLLMENT/ OFFICE ASSISTANT
Athena Study Abroad is looking for a student intern to fill a seasonal Office Assistant position.
The person selected will provide administrative support to the Athena Study Abroad Office and will work under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and all members of the management team.
Total number of hours to be worked will be between 10-15 hours per week (combination of set in office hours and outside research/project work). This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
Position responsibilities will include:
- Data entry into FileMaker, Excel, Word
- Assisting in compiling and directing incoming student application materials through the proper channels to ensure timely organized processing
- Assembling and enhancing Athena acceptance packets and materials
- Assisting with distribution of Athena's catalog and/or materials to campus partners
- Customer service on incoming Athena calls and inquiries
- Directing prospective students through the proper office channels
- Maintaining office schedules
- Assist in the creation of new and existing outreach materials (newsletters, handbooks, web sections, etc.)
- Aiding in keeping Athena's web ads accurate and up to date including paid online advertisements on outside sites as well as information and promotions on Athena's own site
- Other duties as assigned

STUDENT INTERN JOB DESCRIPTION:
TECHNICAL/DESIGN
Objective:
To become versed in the web-based production environment.
To gain insight into how to manage and create web site content
To develop analytical and technical skills, as well as develop professional verbal and written communication skills in a business environment
Position Details:
Athena Study Abroad is seeking an individual for an internship to join with the web team in editing, formatting and creating content.
With training and supervision, the intern may assist with:
* Page design using Dreamweaver and Photoshop
* CSS specifications
* QA/proofing the pages
* Database management
* Photo gallery/video production
* Brochure/Flyer/Catalog creation
* Email marketing
* Web form creation
The intern will be working with some of the following:
* Html
* PHP
* CSS
* Javascript
* SQL
* Dreamweaver
* Filemaker
* Photoshop
* InDesign
* Illustrator
* MS Office
It is not necessary for the intern to have prior knowledge of the above programs/languages, though it would be beneficial.
The intern will quickly become knowledgeable about different page templates that form the basis of a website, understanding both functionality and design. They will learn about how to write and/or gather copy; collect and deploy multimedia content. They will participate in testing and quality assurance process in production environment prior to publishing new content. They may engage in social media outreach activities including blog, Facebook and Twitter monitoring. They will learn how to monitor search engine optimization efforts.
This unpaid internship is approximately 20 hours per week. If interns are currently enrolled in an accredited institution, Athena would welcome working with the institution to ensure the student receives credit for the internship.
Potential interns should have an interest in the web, HTML, Photoshop or other photo editing software; CSS and Web 2.0, SEO and meta-tagging. The webteam functions in a collaborative work process.
All interns are required to possess a basic knowledge of computer systems prior to the commencement of the program and therefore, to have completed at least one college level course related to computers. We also encourage interns to learn how to develop solutions on their own in order to cope with high work volume and to hone the skills to prioritizing and coping with competing deadlines. Interns will acquire an in depth understanding business systems and an appreciation of business practices, which will help to prepare him/her for success in a future career.
