TECHNICAL/DESIGN ASSISTANT

Objective:
To become versed in the web-based production environment (Joomla, PHP)
To gain insight into how to manage and create web site content
To develop analytical and technical skills, as well as develop professional verbal and written communication skills in a business environment

Position Details:
Athena Study Abroad is seeking an individual for an internship to join with the web team in editing, formatting and creating content.

With training and supervision, the intern may assist with:

  • Page design using Joomla, PHP, Dreamweaver and Photoshop
  • CSS specifications 
  • QA/proofing the pages 
  • Database management
  • Photo gallery/video production
  • Brochure/Flyer/Catalog creation
  • Email marketing
  • Web form creation

The intern will be working with some of the following:

  • Html
  • Joomla CMS
  • PHP
  • CSS
  • Javascript
  • Dreamweaver
  • Photoshop
  • InDesign
  • Illustrator
  • MS Office
  • SQL

It is not necessary for the intern to have prior knowledge of the above programs/languages, though it would be beneficial.

The intern will quickly become knowledgeable about different page templates that form the basis of a website, understanding both functionality and design. They will learn about how to write and/or gather copy; collect and deploy multimedia content. They will participate in testing and quality assurance process in production environment prior to publishing new content. They may engage in social media outreach activities including blog, Facebook and Twitter monitoring. They will learn how to monitor search engine optimization efforts.

This unpaid internship is approximately 20 hours per week. If interns are currently enrolled in an accredited institution, Athena would welcome working with the institution to ensure the student receives credit for the internship.

Potential interns should have an interest in the web, HTML, Joomla CMS, Photoshop or other photo editing software; CSS and Web 2.0, SEO and meta-tagging. The webteam functions in a collaborative work process.

All interns are required to possess a basic knowledge of computer systems prior to the commencement of the program and therefore, to have completed at least one college level course related to computers. We also encourage interns to learn how to develop solutions on their own in order to cope with high work volume and to hone the skills to prioritizing and coping with competing deadlines. Interns will acquire an in depth understanding business systems and an appreciation of business practices, which will help to prepare him/her for success in a future career.

GRAPHIC DESIGN ASSISTANT

Athena Study Abroad is seeking an individual for an internship to join with the marketing team in editing, designing, formatting and creating content.

With training and supervision, the intern may assist with:

  • Page design using Joomla, PHP, Dreamweaver and Photoshop
  • CSS specifications
  • QA/proofing the pages
  • Photo gallery/video production
  • Brochure/Flyer/Catalog editing and creation
  • Email marketing

The intern may be working with some of the following:

  • Photoshop
  • InDesign
  • Illustrator
  • MS Office
